City of Florence Cries Out for Help - Part II

This is the second installment of reader essays on problems facing the City of Florence. We welcome blogs to this series from any perspective.

The Stench Coming from Our Historical Board

Brian W. Murphy is the current chairman of the Florence Historical Board. Since he assumed that position, he has:

1. Written an article ridiculing the Sons of Confederate Veterans - Educating Allies

2. Openly participated in a rally at Florence City Hall against his own employer - November 3, 2020.

3. Temporarily shut down the city's Pope's Tavern Museum Facebook page when faced with criticism over his conduct - December 2020.

4. Called police on lawful demonstrators outside Pope's Tavern even though this is what he had personally been participating in at the court house and city hall for weeks - January 2021.

5. Dressed and styled himself to impersonate a court house counter protester, thus ridiculing a Florence taxpayer - Fall 2020 (see photo).

By his own admission, the position of historian is Murphy's fifth career, and he's only 35 years old. Now please tell us: Is the type of person you want to represent our city? The citizens and voters of Florence await your answers.
