Kate Boggus: Legal Reckoning

Braden Turner, Coby Hines, Tyler Nelson

* On April 26, 2018, then 16 year-old Kate Boggus crashed a car at over 100 mph, resulting in the deaths of three Wilson High School students and the life-long injuries to a fourth teenager.

* On or around January 18, 2019, a Lauderdale County grand jury indicted Kate Boggus on one count of assault and three counts of manslaughter. Currently in Lauderdale County, this is the expected time frame for an indictment after an accident, no matter what critics of the fatal Shoal Creek boat crash may think.

* On May 7, 2019, Judge Gil Self awarded Boggus youthful offender status. This was after friends and family of the four victims vehemently protested such a designation.

* In February of this year, Boggus withdrew her not guilty plea and accepted a bargain. She will serve two years on probation and perform 100 hours of community service. There will be no jail time unless Boggus commits a legal infraction during this time.

Was justice served? Was Kate Boggus given preferential treatment? We will leave it up to each reader to answer those questions for himself.

    1. Do you know exactly why she changed her plea to guilty? Are you positive she wasn't offered something under the table?

We are extremely sorry for your loss.

  2. This is unacceptable she was speeding and 3 people lost their lives and another young lady’s life will never be the same. How is this fair? It’s a disgrace to all of the family’s involved. Had she been driving the speed limit this would have been a accident but with her speeding and all of those kids begging her to slow down this was no accident this was her recklessness that killed those 3 outstanding young men and damaged that young girl for the rest of her life. So how is probation fair??

  3. Everybody should be held accountable for their actions and she's no different because of her age but they should maybe gave whoever that raised her probation and community service for not teaching her how she should behave cause it kind of sounds like the classic I get everything I want kid and gets away with every little thing she's done I'll bet she's never had her butt whipped like never and if ever grounded it then it was probably 4 off limits on her shopping card my baby cousin was killed driving his so called girlfriends car and totaled it out at 220pds. 6ft.2 and came through the sunroof of her car where the motor landed on him and he was still fighting 4 his life while she was gathering prescription meds she had went 2 a doctor and got 4 him and no justice came of it cause her mommy and daddy were outstanding citizens her mom being a high school teacher at Brooke's but she gave Jason all the downers and her momma got her speed every month oh and the EMT 4got 2 get his clothes from the scene so she took them home and my family got 2 hear the rumors of how they laid them out in her carport and sprayed the somas from him pockets where the bottle broke and crushed them along with washing his blood out she is an only child who's always gotten what she wanted and her parents allowed her 2 buy her friend by giving her her personal credit cars now she's works at riverbend and often takes my dads brother along with others 2 pay bills and 2 their classes and I honestly don't like her near my family
