We frequently see comments asking why a noted ne'er-do-well is out on bond. The answer is: Unless it's a capital crime, he's entitled to bail according to the state's constitution. Tomorrow we have a chance to change that.
Amendment One, also known as Aniah's Law, will offer judges more leeway in deciding on bond for a defendant. This law will affect only those accused of felony murder, kidnapping, rape, arson, and some extremely violent attacks (true crimes of moral turpitude).
Please vote "Yes" on this amendment on Tuesday. We firmly believe you will be saving the lives of many Alabamians.
