Our Facebook page recently linked an article from the Alabama Political Reporter criticizing Lynn Greer for pandering in his third attempt to modify Alabama's stand your ground gun law. This bill was widely criticized by attorneys and prosecutors when it was twice previously introduced. Here's what one reader said:
So does this bill actually mention churches with day care facilities? Here's a link:
We can find no mention of the scenario/clause our reader has mentioned. If we are "ignorant" of this bill's intent, reading it doesn't seem to elucidate us. No where are church day cares mentioned.
Alabama attorney general Steve Marshall says this bill contains nothing new and is unnecessary. Several county prosecutors have said this bill is not only unnecessary, but could actually hurt some prosecutions in murder cases. At best, it's redundant; at worst, it's harmful.
Our problem isn't with guns in church; we fully support that even if it makes us sad that our nation has fallen to that level. Our problem is with such grandstanding while we have no attempts to pass much needed laws involving state health care or animal welfare.
Did we just hear P.T. Barnum laugh?
