In case any are not aware of this, convicted sex offenders are not welcome on Facebook - as in FB says they're not. This is a long standing policy. Is it being enforced?
Recently a reader told us that he had reported around ten sex offenders to FB and after 15 or so days, their profiles were still up. From our experience, it takes approximately three weeks for FB to verify and act on these tips.
That brings us to two locals of whom we have knowledge. The first is a male whom we and others have previously reported. What did this Cherokee resident do when FB removed his profile? He immediately created another. Nice, law abiding guy, huh? Why? We understand that he thinks he's special...or at least tells his friends and family that these laws/rules don't apply to him. We said he was a sex offender, we didn't say he was intelligent.
The second person is a female who also resides in Colbert County. This woman has an out of state conviction for sodomizing an underaged victim. Now, here's the tricky part. If her conviction had been in Alabama, we know that she would have remained on the sex offender registry for life. Is it the same in Georgia? That we don't know; some states place a person on the registry for a set number of years, then drop that requirement in their conviction.
The point? Today is October 17th. If these two individuals don't remove their FB pages (the female has both a personal page and a "blog") by October 22nd, we take action. We will do an extended Shoals Crime posting on the Cherokee male; whether we do this is entirely up to him - he's the one who has violated the terms of the SORNA laws repeatedly. As for the female, we will gather what information we have on her Georgia sex conviction and present it to the Colbert County Sheriff's office. That agency can decide if she is in violation of SORNA. If she is, she can expect to do an automatic five days in the Colbert County Jail and pay court costs. Of course, this won't be this woman's own fault since she is always the victim of an unfair society.

Scum of the Earth sex offenders love Facebook. Big pool of potential victims for their lewd fantasies. Best solution for sex offenders is to bring back chain gangs. Hook them together and let them swing scythes at weeds from sunup to sundown
