How Will Sheffield Answer?

We recently reported that Sheffield attorney Bennett Pugh had requested certain paperwork from the City of Sheffield. Here's a copy of his letter:

Ms. Lisa Elledge,

City Clerk/Treasurer

600 N. Montgomery Ave.

Sheffield, AL 35660

January 4, 2024

Re: Inspiration Landing Development, LLC and John Elkington

Dear Lisa:

I represent Mr. Carl Raff in a lawsuit against the above referenced parties. Under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Alabama Code Section 36-12-40 and 36-12-41, I am requesting copies of any and all documents, records, recordings (audio and/or video), papers reports, memoranda, council meeting minutes, and any other information between the City of Sheffield and the Sheffield Redevelopment Authority and the above named parties. This also includes any loans, bond issues or other debt related information, as well as the deed and engineering information relative to the Inspiration Landing project.

If there are fees associated with copying this information, please let me know. The law requires a response in a reasonable time period. If access to this information will take longer, please let me know. Always feel free to contact me with any questions.

Sincerely Yours:

Bennett L. Pugh

CC: Carl Raff and Wilson Mitchell

How will the City respond? Will the City respond? To be in compliance with the law, the City must answer Mr. Pugh's request. Once Mr. Pugh has the documents, he will surely use them in his court case against John Elkington. We eagerly await that development.
