We've seen several individuals blaming the City of Florence for both a downsized Independence Day celebration and the discontinuance of the Handy parade in the city. Things change.
We've mentioned the "30 Year Rule" before. Thirty years is roughly considered one generation. Look at almost any small business; look at popular clothing designers, and look at local celebrations. Most evolve or die out altogether in a span of 30 years.
Chicken & Egg Festival in Moulton? Dumpling Festival in Athens? Sam Phillips Festival in Florence? All are long gone. Let's just be happy that we have the W.C. Handy Festival to promote.
