Flu & Basketball at Colbert Heights

According to some parents who have contacted us, the flu is raging at Colbert Heights High School, but the powers that be refuse to initiate long distance learning for a short period. We would like to know why, since this shouldn't affect over two weeks of the school year. We'd also like to know why so little immunization against the nasty bug?

But that isn't the only complaint we're hearing from the school on the mountain. The second worry involves basketball. According to AHSAA regulations, unless a player attends at least half a day of school on the day of a game or has a valid physician's excuse, he or she may not participate in that game.

If what some parents have told us is true, that rule is not being followed at Colbert Heights. Since the school lost the particular game in question, it's really a moot point; however, cheating is cheating. We know that some have turned the situation over to the AHSAA. We await what that governing body says.

We'll add a word about the fight that developed during last Friday's game. No, it's not about the two players involved; it's about the family member who posted a video and commented. Does that kind of language directed at a school and an underage player really help the situation? Anyone with a modicum of intelligence knows that it doesn't. After all, Colbert Heights didn't need a mother from the opposing team to make them look bad - the team seems to have done that all by themselves.
