Jirehn & Makyla: No Rock Here

When you read the account of the Shoals' most recent Bonnie & Clyde wannabes, was the name Makyla McGarity familiar to you? Almost exactly four years ago, the Leighton woman and her younger sister were all over Facebook calling for the arrest of their stepfather who had just shot their mother in the head. A quick glance at current social media shows the victim to be reconciled with her attacker, so poor choices may run in the family.

Flash forward to the wonderful year of 2020 and you'll find Makyla lists Jirehn Jones as her rock and her "husband." He lists her as merely a girlfriend. Whatever the truth, the two share a four month old son. Looking at their criminal records, the one past charge they seem to have in common is the illegal possession of a gun. 

We may never know who actually masterminded the string of robberies of which the couple is accused, but both have been charged in the most recent - the one in which Jirehn was almost fatally shot. Both were arrested, but things began to change rapidly from that point.

Jirehn is now charged with five Colbert robberies and may soon face similar charges in Lauderdale; however, he's free on $120.000.00 bond with Tim Case representing him. Makyla is still languishing in the Colbert County women's hold in Tuscumbia.  A little disparity, no?

Without Jirehn's testimony, it may be difficult to prove Makyla participated in the armed robberies. Did he do a little shopping for his freedom? Of course, the series of robberies may have been her idea - her record is actually more lengthy than his.

And the child? We have as much faith in Colbert DHR as we do Benny Hinn. Let's hope for a miracle this time...
