These are dangerous times. That is not disputed. School shootings have become all too familiar. But, has it gotten to the point that we do not even trust the children, especially older children, to go to Junior High games unchaperoned?
Some of the same parents who bristle against "wokeism"will gladly let their children be penalized due to homegrown terrorism. They will abide restrictions to their kids but NOT to the high powered weapons that have been used in mass murders in this country. Restrict the kids but not Dad and Mom's gun collection!
They trust their representatives in congress more than little Johnny or Jane. I grew up in a neighborhood in Florence where we could walk to the middle school basketball games. I have some happy memories of those times. The kids of the subdivision all walked together to basketball games at the school and our parents trusted us to at the very least not cause problems. If we did, we KNEW not only would the principal take care of it with a wooden pallet, we had to face even worse punishment when we got home.
But I guess it is easier to "create security measures" and the adults just stay on the sidelines. And clean their AR-15s.

All one has to do is look at the social media platforms that today's teens worship to see why this is deemed necessary by various school systems. Many of today's 'parents have forced school systems into this corner by refusing to BE parents. It isn't guns or drugs, or alcohol. It's the total and absolute absence of parenting skills.
ReplyDeleteGuns have been part of America since we first came to this land and I remember guns riding in the back of Pickup truck windows of High Schoolers without ANY 'Shooting' incidents. WHAT has changed ? People. As the Comment above noted, Parents are no longer 'Parenting'. They'd rather be 'Friends' with their kids, letting them walk all over them and demand every item they want. Kids and Dogs - Without discipline and parameters, what do you get ? Spoiled Brats and Dogs that no one wants to be around. Guns aren't the problem ....Irresponsible, Criminal and Mentally-disturbed People are the problem. Until we address the Mental Health issues in this country, we will continue to have Sick individuals taking out their anger on others. I recently watched a video of a young man who had just been dumped by his girlfriend, drive up to an elderly man checking his mailbox. The young man said something to the elderly gentleman and then shot him dead .....all while recording it on his phone and then posting it on Social Media. WHY ? Because he was angry at his girlfriend. I would bet you money, that young man had no father, OR mother around on a regular basis. Probably never met his father. Bottom line, we can't blame the schools for trying to protect students, but we can sure as heck blame the govt for not enforcing the laws that already exist and ....for NOT having the right kind of care the 'Deranged' need. Being softhearted toward your kids, makes them dependent, weak and prone to actions that destroy. BE Parents, not "Buddies" ....before our civilization collapses. It's already happening.
