Is Tommy Our Junior Senator or Is It Yogi?

Our junior senator from Alabama has said it's time to wake up and smell the roses. Somehow we don't think this statement conveyed his actual thoughts on a Democratic takeover of the Senate.

Will this takeover happen? It's possible after the events of last month. There's now several movements to have Uncle Clarence impeached. If you don't like that moniker, it was courtesy of "Huntsville's own Nick Fury."

Even more recently the controversial jurist has been espousing the erroneous idea of dead fetal cells in COVID vaccines. Perhaps he wants to lose some of his following via a horrible death?

If you wish to complain about the current administration of the Colbert Shelter, we're told Tambra Howard has left that body. It would be interesting to know why.

Here's a wake up call for Napping Nancy. Lauderdale County has fallen in the state's income ratings, while its neighbor Limestone has risen to number three.

Or, in the words of an old Dr. Hook song, we're still seeing them same ol' sleazos that we used to see.

A Final Word Before You Vote!

While some of our bloggers reside in Colbert County, Shoalanda lives in Lauderdale and is extremely glad she doesn't have to choose between Mary Baschab-Haslacker and Chad Smith. We've enjoyed our communications with both candidates and believe either will work for what's best for their county as District Judge. Pray before you vote.

Could you rock a Pink Floyd tee-shirt like this? No, didn't think so. Pictured is our friend Brent Woodall. Vote for Brent today for the Public Service Commission. You'll be glad you did.

The shirt was a birthday gift, so a belated happy birthday to Brent!

A Few State Offices...

We've so far failed to mention many important offices; here's a few more:

Auditor: Our own Andrew Sorrell is, as always, tops. He truly cares about the Shoals!

Secretary of State: Jim Zeigler has the experience. Despite being something of a firebrand, he'll get the job done.

District 3 Republican: No recommendation. The campaign has recently devolved. into the mud. Take your pick.

District 3 Democrat: Susan Bentley is a refreshing candidate who will get the work done. So all two of you Dems out there should consider yourselves lucky that she chose to run.

How about Lauderdale County?

We have only one endorsement. Vote for B.J. Tully for the county school board. He's accessible and cares about the future of our schools.

Still undecided about the Lauderdale sheriff? We'll take a closer look at this office next.

Friday Can't Get Here Soon Enough!

Friday the 28th will be the last day to qualify in the state's Republican primary. We already have enough gubernatorial candidates to field a baseball team.

We have lost one candidate this week. Jim Zeigler has withdrawn from the race for governor over funding issues. That still leaves enough contenders to ensure a runoff. Most of these would-be leaders are so inept that we may just write in Steve Holt's name. Doesn't everyone in Florence miss him now?

Locally, we're sure many were surprised by Brad Holmes' decision not to seek another term as District 1 commissioner. While commissioners serve an important role, animal shelter funding and road maintenance shouldn't be hot topics. Yet they are.

This time, let's elect commissioners who will demand fairness in these two areas. Only two? We may be missing something. Readers are invited to send their wants for the Eastern end of the county. We'll publish all submissions.

Batten Down Your Hatches...Here Come the Election Ads

Democrats began qualifying for the 2022 election cycle on December 6th. Republicans will begin on Tuesday, and the qualifying period will end on January 28th. The election will be held on November 8th, meaning we have approximately ten months of campaign ads to look forward to.

While it's still early, we appreciate candidate bios, campaign announcements, etc., at any point and will publish as we receive them.

As of today, the governor's race appears to be one of the three or four most interesting for our part of the state. On the Republican side, there are five announced candidates and two who are teasing the voters with "maybe I will, maybe I won't." On the Democratic side of the aisle, there are currently three candidates.

We assume no thinking person gives the Democratic candidate even the slimmest chance in this state, so we're pretty much looking at a five person race...or will that be a seven person race by tomorrow?

Please, if you aren't registered to vote, do so now. Otherwise, no complaining about the results.
