Ed Henry Pleads Guilty/Sheffield Shelly Tells It Like It Is

There are many homilies about doing good where you can. An example is one may not be able to save all the whales, but can save a single whale. Similarly, most of us can't change everything for the better, but we can change some things.

Take Ed Henry. (Insert Hennie Youngman joke here). Ed "tried" for years to ban induced abortions in the state. This member of our state legislature knew that he couldn't do that. He knew that he was wasting taxpayer dollars. Yet he continued. What Ed could have done was to be honest in his personal business practices. Guess what?

Yes, today Ed pleaded guilty to Medicare fraud, among other things. How many of you want to take any advice on moral living from Ed at this point?

One Word: Switzerland!

After yesterday's blog on Sheffield and its problems, we have a word from Sheffield Shelly:

The Midnight Ryder omitted one significant problem in Sheffield-the school system. When 80+ employees leave a system that small within a 3 year period of time, there’s something wrong. When student enrollment steadily declines over the same time period, there’s something wrong. We have a school board made of 5 members. Not one member has a child who attends Sheffield City Schools. Board member Steve Hargrove resigned his position in June, and the Times Daily STILL hasn’t reported that or his replacement, Christy Casiday. Finally, this board, for the second consecutive time, overlooked its own Dr. Carlos Nelson for the superintendent position. Keith Lankford decimated the school system, and now they’ve given it to a man who was asked to step down from his last job.

No town or city is without problems, but doesn't Sheffield seem to have more than its share?

Ed Henry Ran a Pill Mill?

For those who don't regularly follow us, please be assured that we don't, as in DO NOT, support abortion as a means of birth control. What we do support is sex education and better access to birth control in order to cut this country's abortion rate by at least 90%. We DO advocate for exposing men who prey on women and young teenage girls.

Guess where Rep. Ed Henry of Hartselle stands on these two issues? Henry once called himself a murderer because he helped pay for a girlfriend's abortion. He regularly helps pass Alabama laws against abortion clinics that can't be enforced. If you wonder who's paying for defending these laws, look in the mirror.

Today, Henry was indicted in federal court on 14 counts of Medicare fraud, running a pill mill, etc. The Roy Moore supporter says he's innocent. BTW, we understand that Bill Clinton said the same thing today about being accused of sex crimes all those years ago. Know what the main three words in the spy game are? Deny, deny, deny! Apparently they also work pretty well elsewhere.

The moral? If you steal, cheat, and lie, you eventually get caught. In other words, you'll get yours. Not that we have anyone in mind, of course...

Ed Henry Strikes Again

Ed Henry, Republican state representative, doesn’t want increased background checks on gun sales which require all dealers to register. Why? It seems it’s his hobby to buy and sell at gun shows and he doesn’t want to have to go to the trouble of registering for a hobby.

Well, let’s see, Rep. Henry, if you want to sell your great-aunt Agatha’s famous funnel cakes at the next Helen Keller festival, you’ll have to buy a business permit, endure a health department inspection, and establish certain accommodations if you sell these wonderful delicacies via a food truck. Perhaps we’re missing something here, but while food poisoning is a serious condition, we’ve never heard of funnel cakes killing anyone, not even a flesh wound. No, we don’t think these new regulations will save thousands of lives. They may save three or four a year, and that’s something.

And Rep. Henry, since you’re so gung ho on assuring that Alabama citizens aren’t traumatized by abortion clinic protests, surely you realize that we citizens will feel much better knowing just who is selling guns at the civic center, fairground, wherever our fair cities hold these emporiums on a regular basis? It should also help local gun dealers who have permanent businesses, buy permits, pay taxes, etc. Just think how much this new policy will level the playing field.

*****

We recently read an AL.com article that referred to State Auditor Jim Zeigler as “batty.” We have to wonder how the author would classify him if they had to rate him against most of our state legislators?

*****

We’ll shortly begin endorsing candidates. Any candidates who would like to present his/her platform to the public via our blog should forward any communications to us by January 20th.

The biggies? Two circuit judgeships in Lauderdale as well as license commissioner. In Colbert, the superintendent of education is the contest to watch. The March 1st primaries will decide the victor in many of these elections. So far, no dirt has been slung; let’s hope this proves true until the November general election.

Rep. Ed Henry Strikes Again

Rep. Ed Henry
Boards of Education in our area are notoriously slated for nepotism, do-nothingness, and just plain ignorance. No one can remember a time citizens of western Lauderdale have felt they had a true voice in matters of county education. If Rep. Phillip Pettus had his way, citizens of Florence wouldn't have a say...quite literally.

Now an 18 year-old wants to run for a place on the Lauderdale Board. Now Rep. Ed Henry wants to do away with the State Department of Education, responsible for disciplining teachers at a state level as we understand it.

Why not give the 18 year-old Rep. Henry's job? He couldn't do any worse than Henry has in the past four years. Hartselle must be so proud...

*****

So why does Rep. Henry want to close down a long-standing department? He's been in an ongoing war of words with Supt. Bice for several weeks over funding.

Henry has called Bice a liar concerning what the superintendent has called a 4% cut. No lynch mobs appeared to take out Bice, so now Henry apparently thinks the best way to be rid of him is to do away with his job.

Ah, Alabama politics...making Muscle Shoals look good.

UAB Trustees Issue Resolution That Florence City Council Should Mind Its Own Business

No, that hasn't happened yet. We have to ask what business the Florence City Council...or Muscle Shoals and Sheffield which have already issued similar resolutions...has in supporting football at UAB. Locally, a former player has stated UAB trustees lied when they announced there was no more money for the program. Did they? We have no idea of all the motivations that went into the dissolution of the program, but we do know the City of Florence is confronting some real problems. Why not clean our own front porch before we go down to Birmingham to offer our opinion on how things should be done there?

We're thinking this is the perfect time for Steve Pierce to demand UNA fields a hockey team. After all, UAH has one. Why should any other Alabama colleges and universities be without?

From one of our bloggers: KUDOS to Tuscumbia Police Department or their aggressive enforcement of the school zone at Deshler High School this morning. Keep it up!

We recently blogged:

Rep. Ed Henry of Hartselle doesn't care if his bill costs Alabama tons in litigation; he's just protecting students by wanting to ban abortion clinics from any area in which there's a public school--all those demonstrations might be upsetting for the little tykes. Pardon us for introducing some logic here, but why not establish that permits for these demonstrations are not issued for school opening or closing times. Now if Rep. Henry would just start working to counter violence in movies, television shows, video games, and even homes, he might actually do some good.

This isn't Henry's first jab at abortion clinics: Is Ed Henry Sane?

The TimesDaily agrees that Henry is going at his quest in all the wrong ways and published an editorial to that effect. It seems Jim Warren of Florence disagrees. He feels any tactic is fair game to eliminate abortion clinics in Alabama. Really, even lies? What do lies say about Henry's "moral convictions" as Warren calls them.

Again, Henry should promote legislation that offers education as to abstinence and birth-control. No unwanted pregnancies mean no abortions unless medically necessary. Isn't that simple? Apparently not to a multitude in this state who think "Logic" is an expensive brand of watch sold at Belk's.

Is Ed Henry a Murderer? Is Ed Henry Even Sane?

This blog is not about abortion, per se. It is about an elected official who seems just a little mixed up. Two years ago, Ed Henry from Hartselle called himself a murderer because he helped a former girlfriend obtain an abortion. He stated at the time that he was morally wrong and regretted his actions.

Whether anyone thinks what Republican Rep. Ed Henry did was morally right or wrong, isn't Ed just a little mixed up here? At the time of Henry's confession of murder two years ago, some asked why the good lawmaker didn't attempt to turn himself in for his crimes.

Good question, but we feel ours is even better. At the time of his declaration of murder, Henry said he cautioned his own children not to commit the sin of abortion as he had done. Wouldn't it just have been simpler for Henry to have cautioned his children, and everyone else's, not to engage in sex outside of marriage to begin with? No sex means no pregnancy, and no pregnancy means no abortion. Simple, isn't it? Or does Henry consider this something less of a sin?

Somehow our perception of Republicans had always included just a hint of better education than the Dems; that rapidly changed when the Republicans came to power in Alabama.

*****

During the current session, our state House of Representatives has passed not one, not two, not three, but four bills that restrict abortion in some manner. Just a thought here, but couldn't these politicians have gotten together and combined much of this legislation for simplicity? Or is their game plan simply to wear down the opposition with numbers?
