Todd Davis "Retires"

An educator has sent us this very interesting timeline:

Davis was hired at West Blocton as assistant principal and head baseball coach, not basketball, for the 2023-2024 school year.

Was ejected from a game for telling the home plate umpire to "get your black ass back behind the plate." Suspended by school and contract not renewed.

Next stop, Prattville High as an assistant principal last school year - announcement attached. What the h*** were they thinking?

Retired on July 1 according to the minutes from the Autauga County Board of Education.

That would place Davis' latest DUI arrest three weeks after his retirement from the State of Alabama system. Many retired teachers do return in various capacities, especially when there is an urgent need; however, we don't anticipate that will be Davis' future.

Will he begin a second career, perhaps in Lauderdale County? If it's in the public realm, we'll let our readers know. If it's in the private arena, we will not comment.

Remember Lexington Principal Todd Davis?

On July 23rd, our mailbox began to receive some interesting queries about former Lexington High principal Todd Davis. It seems he had been arrested in Florence on a DUI charge.

You may remember that Davis' tenure as principal at Lexinton was short-lived due to two incidents, one in which he had to be escorted from the school's prom by the then superintendent. Since leaving Lexington, Davis has had quite a job trip around the state, changing locations approximately every two years.

He's currently the assistant principal and basketball coach at West Blocton High, but it's his previous position that's interesting. He's being sued along with the Montgomery Board of Education for sex discrimination in a complaint from December 2023. If you remember, he's been accused of similar actions before.

We'll update on the lawsuit when more information is available.

Readers Comment on Lexington Events

Reader No. One sent the above meme. Hey, you needed a new keyboard, didn't you?

Reader No. Two on Todd Davis: Parents love him like a toothache. Ole Willie got complained on...ended up promoted ...they sent Davis as his replacement...

Reader No. Three: He dared to Tweet this? "Lexington will move on & survive."

Reader No. Four: Who gets custody of the smoker?

There were others, but many weren't publishable due to language. Quite frankly, we probably wouldn't have published anything else on the situation, but the hubris of Davis' tweet left us speechless.

If Lexington School has survived two world wars, the loss of Larry Smith, and the reassignment of Will Joiner, we think the school will survive two years of total incompetence.

"Don't Gimme No Lines & Keep Yo' Hands to Yo'self"

We're not sure if there's a full moon or not, but within the past 24 hours, we've received several complaints from the eastern end of Lauderdale County.

While we're not in COVID-19 outbreak mode just yet, this is the advice from the CDC:

  • During a COVID-19 outbreak in your community, stay home as much as possible to further reduce your risk of being exposed.
From Rogersville mayor Richard Herston:

I would like to announce that all our stores ,restaurants, walking trail, tennis courts , Joe wheeler golf course , Joe wheeler lodge , boat launch.. and the highways to get to Rogersville are all open.. come out and enjoy our great town and area.. not sure we still have toilet paper😂😂🤣., have a great day!

Is anyone else thinking of Nero?

From Lexington School, we have two separate complaints. The first involves principal Todd Davis' remark about having to supervise "other people kids." The person who sent this to us was rather irate over the Twitter post. We agree that such supervision is Davis' current job. If he's not happy, his contract is supposedly up March 31st; perhaps things will change at that time?

While the second complaint against Davis contained some very interesting comments, we're going to publish the Instagram shot by itself. The photo of Davis and two students after the prom seems self-explanatory.

Now for your listening enjoyment and cultural edification:

Surprisingly Similar Complaints from Sheffield & Lexington

After an article in the TimesDaily last week referenced Dewey King as both fire chief and public safety director in Sheffield, one of our regular readers asked us how this was not a conflict of interest. In other words, Public Safety Director King supervises Fire Chief King. In his role as head of public safety, King also supervises the police and the building departments. This arrangement has been in place since 2014.

We'll guess that if any complaints were filed against the fire department, they would go directly to the mayor/council and not the office of public safety. We're also guessing that Chief King is close to retirement. At that time, these positions may be filled by two separate individuals.

If any of our readers have had problems resulting from this arrangement, please contact us. Remember, Sheffield is a very small and relatively land-locked town; its needs may not be the same as a city the size of Florence.

A Lexington parent has contacted us asking if it's legal or ethical for Todd Davis to serve as both principal and athletic director:

We're not sure how it could be considered illegal. Unethical? How would Principal Todd Davis reprimand Athletic Director Todd Davis? Another sticky wicket.

The parent who reported this declined to mention a specific problem before we answered his question. If there are parents out there who feel this arrangement isn't in the best interest of the students, please offer an example of a negative outcome, and we'll quiz the board on it.

We can understand how some parents don't wish to file formal complaints due to fear of retaliation, but this is the most direct way to get answers. Remember, the Lauderdale County Board of Education doesn't answer parents' questions much more quickly than it doesn't answer ours. Feel free to read that last sentence again - it wasn't a typo.
