Brian Martin Employs Max Dotson

 

When Brian Martin had a dozen checks stolen in early 2020, he immediately contacted Listerhill Credit Union. A short time later, a man allegedly unknown to Martin attempted to cash one of these checks for $3,000.00. The credit union informed Martin, who then sought to have the forger arrested.

While we don't have all the details of the issue, the Colbert County District Attorney's office refused to prosecute. Martin then employed a private detective in order to secure more evidence against the thief. The detective's name was Max Dotson, a Sheffield police officer who had previously been let go from the City of Florence.

Brian Martin was, for whatever reason, greatly dissatisfied with Dotson and asked this blog if we could refer him to another detective. We did that; however, apparently the two never made contact. We heard no more about the story after that.

If you look at the stolen check, you will see that it lists the name "Martin Enterprises." We have no idea if this company was profitable or perhaps was simply left over from before Martin's manslaughter conviction.

Did Max Dotson believe that Brian Martin was wealthy? It would seem that way or he wouldn't have bothered to sue his shooter. Is there money in this account or another as yet unknown? That we don't know, but we maintain any money that Mr. Martin may have should go to the families of his two victims.

Now the State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the Dotson-Martin connection. On the afternoon of October 1st, we don't believe Martin knew who was pursuing him. The SBI report should clarify the issue and be extremely interesting reading.

Sheffield Takes Florence's Cast-Off Police Officers?

How many chances does a police officer get? We know of one in Florence who had at least three walks on the illegal side of the highway before the city was able to get rid of him. Now we understand another Florence cast-off has gone to Sheffield. This is from a Pen-N-Sword 2016 article (we're publishing in whole, since the old site will not be up much longer):

From July 14, 2016 -

"Note: Dotson remains on unpaid leave. He is currently working as a real estate agent. Dotson’s wife was similarly charged with Domestic Violence, but her trial has yet to be held.

From FPD: On Friday, April 29th, 2016 at 06:50 hours, Florence Police responded to the 100 block of Talisman Dr. based on the report of a domestic incident that was in progress. Upon their arrival, Florence Police officers observed evidence indicating domestic violence had occurred. As a result, two individuals were arrested and charged with domestic violence 3rd degree. One of those individuals was Max Ryan Dotson.

Max Dotson was hired as a sworn police officer by the Florence Police Department in August of 2007.

At the time of his arrest, Dotson was on unpaid administrative leave with the department. The unpaid leave was due to a recommendation for dismissal filed by Chief Ron Tyler against Max Dotson. The matter was still pending with the Florence Civil Service Board at the time of Dotson’s arrest on April 29th.

Earlier today, on 7/12/2016, Max Dotson entered into a plea agreement at Florence Municipal Court concerning this case. These matters will be added to the items presently before the Florence Civil Service Board regarding Dotson’s employment status with the Florence Police Department."

What kind of of crime shouldn't be unpardonable for a sworn police officer? We don't know what Dotson's first offence was (or at the least the one he was being dismissed for), but we know the one referenced here was for harming his wife.
