FLAS Needs a Benefactor

Recently, a philanthropist paid to have the Shoals Theatre sign totally refurbished. A wealthy entrepreneur who graduated from Brooks High built the school a new press box. Kudos to both individuals!

We're asking someone to step up and purchase Florence Animal Services a new transport van. Pictured above is the van mayor Andy Betterton donated to the department. It's out of service more than it is in. The heating and cooling don't work - not surprising since it was the oldest the City owned.

If you can help, call Cheryl Jones at 256-760-6676.

Save a Kitten This Halloween

Maybe you're taking the grand tour for Christmas. In other words, this might not be the best time for you to adopt a pet, especially a small kitten. If you can't adopt, why not foster?

Fostering isn't forever. The Florence-Lauderdale Animal Shelter currently needs foster homes for around ten kittens. The situation is desperate:

We have 10 kittens that need a foster. They don’t all have to go together but at least in pairs.

I can’t say it any more clearly…these kittens will not make it here. They need supportive care and the shelter isn’t the place for that.

I need at the very least for 5 people to step up to save their lives. We will provide necessary supplies and will cover necessary vet visits.

This is a Real Emergency - Please Help!

We have an emergency in Lauderdale County. Unfortunately, it's one that Bruce Banner Bulldog isn't able to handle. He's leaving it up to you.

The Florence Lauderdale Animal Shelter is overwhelmed. Confiscated dogs and puppies are everywhere, and the shelter needs everything. Some of these dogs are injured or have previous problems due to some subhuman(s) whose idol is obviously Michael Vick. In other words, it's not their fault that they're where they are now.

From a post by Mark Simpson:

There has been a major event with the animal shelter (over 60 dogs from one location)and they are desperately in need of food. I am working with them to get the word out and we will also be a drop-off location at our Killen location and the wrecker service in Florence.

and

Simpson's Wrecker Service

We need dog food, especially canned wet and treats such as busy bones for large dogs. Dry food we ask for no dyes just brown colored food. People can also drop off 8-5 7 days a week at the Florence Lauderdale Animal Services at 3240 Roberson rd Florence 35630. They can leave at door. Also having items shipped via Amazon etc is an option.

(Everyone remember Mr. Simpson's kindness when in need of wrecker services!)
