Cavapoochons? Really?

 

You may have seen this ad in the TimesDaily. Did you think: What in the world is a Cavapoochon? We clicked on the ad to see if our suspicions were correct - and they were.

A Cavapoochon is part Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, part Poodle, and part Bichon Frise. In other words, as cute as they are, they're still a Mutt.

Our local shelter is full of Mutts who're looking for a furever home. We promise you'll love your shelter rescue just as much as you would this Frankenstein concoction of canine genes.

Needed Immediately at Florence Animal Services

 

Due to the recent confiscation, there are over 150 dogs at the Florence-Lauderdale shelter. This was unexpected and staff and services are being pushed to their limits...once again thanks to the same individual breeder/hoarder.

This is what's needed Immediately:

* Dry dog food without dyes - if you're feeling generous, throw in some wet cat food

* New or used blankets of small to medium size

* Dog toys

* Fosters for the adoptable dogs

* Volunteers to do laundry and walk dogs

Don't Let Shelley Die...

 

We've showcased Shelley before. She's less than two years old and a mix of Boxer and American Staffordshire Terrier and just plain beautiful.

So why hasn't she been adopted? Shelley is deaf.

That means she won't care how badly you sing in the shower. So hurry to Florence Animal Services at 3240 Roberson Road, just off Chisholm, and make her part of your family. (She needs to be an only pet.)

Five Spaniel Mix Pups Available Now!

 

Florence-Lauderdale Animal Services now has five Cocker Spaniel mix puppies available for adoption. These pupsters are 11 weeks-old. Both male and female are looking for furever homes. You can see them at 3240 Roberson Road in the Florence Industrial Park, just a short drive off Chisholm Road in Florence.

There are currently 253 cats/kittens at Florence-Lauderdale Animal Services (3240 Robertson Road). Why so many? 

Many people simply don't neuter their pets. Then they wonder why the local animal shelter is always full. What can you do about it?

Donate to the shelter:

1. Money

2. Chlorine bleach

3. Paper towels

4. New or used blankets or towels

5. Kitty litter

6. Cardboard flats (from the grocery store)

7. Wet & dry cat/kitten food

8. Unflavored Pedialyte

9. Cat toys

Come August, you can also vote for a Florence mayor who will prioritize the shelter. And right now? You can adopt a ball of floof and give it a furever home.

It's because anyone who really wants one already has one. 

Obviously, cats make new fans or are adopted to replace those who have passed on, but most moggy lovers already have their feline companion in place. That's why you need to encourage new pet owners to neuter their pets (cats or dogs).

Their are 253 cats in Florence alone depending on you!

Clarification: The shelter needs just a backdrop - not balloons. If you can make this, we'll purchase the materials for the project.

Do you have the materials to make the small backdrop on the right? Or perhaps the medium on the left? It basically requires plywood, hinges, and a low gloss paint that photographs well (one side light; one side dark). Directions are on site referenced under photograph.

Why do we need a folding backdrop that requires little storage space?

Rosie would look a thousand times better if she had a dark solid color backdrop behind her. 

Rocket would look a thousand times better if he had a light solid color backdrop behind him.

If you can do this, call the Florence shelter at 256-760-6676 to let the director know that you are crafting a backdrop and when you will deliver it to the facility at 3240 Roberson Road in the industrial park.

Two More Days of $25 Adoptions

 

There's only two days left in this month. That means two days to take advantage of the $25.00 adoption fees at the Florence Lauderdale Animal Services.

Our personal favorite is Grover. Just look at that happy boy. He's been at the shelter entirely too long. Doesn't he deserve the home that only you can give?

Remember, it's not just dogs. Cats are also marked down...ahem. Don't you need a pair?

Please Help Save Sam

 

Reportedly, this dog lay like this for between one to two weeks. His owners are said to be either older or physically incapacitated. If true, we hope they also get the help they need. 

It's also been reported that neither Franklin nor Colbert Counties would help this dog. (Isn't Corey Speegle special?) The Florence shelter has taken Sam in and is seeing that he gets the help (the very expensive help) he now needs.

We're asking that anyone who is able donate to a fund for Sam. The form that pops us will say $25.00; however, you may change that to something much smaller...or larger is you have the resources.

Once Sam is well, he will be placed in a rescue or directly in a home where he will have food, warmth, medical care, and love for the rest of his life. We'll be doing updates on Sam when available.
